[Cake Break] It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
I love Jamie at Perpetual Page-Turner's feature here, where she talks to her readers as if they are meeting up for coffee. I adore getting to know a little more about her this way, so I'd like to follow her lead and maybe make some connections myself! I'm adapting it slightly because I go for sweets over coffee. So, have a cake break and chat with me?
Today, I have this seasonal deliciousness from Doughnut Time. Not pictured: the generous helping of Nutella inside. What are you having?
If we were sharing this cake doughnut...
I'd confess that I've started listening to the album that has been the soundtrack of my Christmas for the last two years - Michael Buble's Christmas album. Do you like Christmas music?
I'd also tell you that none of those Christmas traditions include presents! When I was growing up, this lack of gift-exchanging was a little disappointing (what kid doesn't like presents?). Now that I'm more aware about the cost and stress of buying presents, I'm all for it. How do you feel about buying Christmas presents?
I'd tell you that two of my close friends are getting married next year! I'm going to be a bridesmaid for one of them (!!!) and we're going dress shopping next week. It's all very exciting, and I'm so happy for my friends. On the other hand, it feels funny. I may be twenty-five, but I feel like I'm not grown up enough for this kind of thing.
I'd ask how you are feeling about 2016 coming to a close. The end of the year always makes me feel rather reflective and sometimes a little anxious. I usually dread looking at my resolutions from the beginning of the year, knowing I've failed at least one of them (most of the time it's the one that says 'Exercise regularly'). I feel rather okay about this year though, having accomplished the biggest resolution I had ('Survive first year of Masters degree')! How did you go with your resolutions this year?
I'd tell you that I've finally signed up for Netflix and may have gotten a little addicted. 😝 So far, I've watched the new Gilmore Girls (I have so many thoughts on this), all of Shadowhunters (not a masterpiece, but I finished a whole season in three days anyway), the first season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine (new favourite), all of The Crown (Philip frustrates me so much, but I love the show as a whole), Zootopia (I may have cried a little bit), and Grease Live! (mainly for Aaron Tveit). There are so many more movies and shows on it, it's almost ridiculous.

What else would you like to talk about?
What's been going on with you?
That doughnut is SO CUTE. I stay away from Doughnut Time/anything doughnut-related bc I know I wouldn't be able to help myself around Nutella. ❤❤
ReplyDeleteMy friends are also starting to get married next year! One of my closest is having hers in September and I'll be a bridesmaid too and I'm just suuuper excited. Have fun dress-shopping! I feel like the time has come but I'm not ready yet.
RE: resolutions. You're definitely not the only one. I make resolutions pretty much every year (save for this year, actually, bc I was too stressed to even thinkin about it) but I always forget them three weeks into the new year, haha. Let's hope 2017 will be different - I also want to 'exercise regularly' (and have always failed). :P
Isn't it just?? Nutella is my weakness too haha. There's a bakery near my place that makes a ridiculously delicious Nutella doughnut, and it takes a lot of will power to not stop by all the time haha.
DeleteThank you! I had a fun time dress-shopping, and I hope you will too when it gets closer to your friend's wedding. :D Yeah, I figure I don't need to worry about getting married until I have a job and means to feed myself haha.
Haha here's to a year where we can keep our resolutions! I've promised myself that I will go a pilates studio near my place and sign up - I tell myself that if I've already spent the money, I'd have no choice but to actually go :P
That's such a cute doughnut! Around this time of year I always start to crave jelly doughnuts because of Chanukah, but my absolute favorites are the custard-filled ones. I'm allergic to nuts, so Nutella is (sadly) not an option.
ReplyDeleteI've been listening to so much Christmas music lately! I've found a few Christmas piano playlists on Spotify and I've been listening to them while I study for finals. But Michael Buble's Christmas album is one of my favorites, too!
It's also a really delicious doughnut! You know, I don't think I've had jelly doughnuts or custard-filled ones, but that maybe because I always go for the chocolate option. Awhh no D: That's too bad about your allergy.
DeleteI found a Christmas piano playlist too on Spotify! It's the most soothing playlist ever. I hope you had a great Christmas! 💜
I'm going to be a bridesmaid for my friend next year too, it makes me feel so old, haha. Michael Buble is definitely required Christmas listening! And if you liked Grease you should try 'Hairspray live' too - Jennifer Hudson was amazing :D
ReplyDeleteTell me about it! My high school friends have been getting married for the last two years, but I still feel like we're all children haha. Oooh I heard about Hairspray Live! I shall look into it. 😊 Thanks Catherine, hope you had a great Christmas!
DeleteThis is such a great post! I don't know why, but it really calmed me down. Personally, I really enjoy buying (and receiving... not gonna lie) Christmas presents, but it can be stressful. Especially when someone gives you a gift, but you didn't think to gift them. (oops!) The best part of the holiday season for me is just the overall atmosphere, though. I can't pick one specific thing about Christmas, just the feeling you get each time this year. Lovely post!
ReplyDeleteAwwh I'm so glad to hear that, Julia! 💜 Receiving presents definitely makes me happy too haha. I think it's the part where it's compulsory to buy other people presents that would be stressful! And omg, that situation totally happened to me this year! I had to go out to buy them something the next day haha.
